It is important in every home, to ensure a change of air by opening windows and balconies. A way that, by creating internal air currents, also allows you to cool off a little in hot weather. Often, however, opening the windows wide means finding a myriad of insects in the house: mosquitoes, ants, wasps, flies and so on. Without excluding, then, the possibility that lizards, geckos and mice may also enter. These unwanted guests could enter when the mosquito net is broken and needs to be fixed, but even more so when it is completely absent.

Therefore, if we do not want to suffer a real invasion, it will be good to try to remedy this lack. Many perhaps have never thought about it, but you can also do it yourself thanks to 2 ingenious ideas for making cheap mosquito nets.

First DIY project

Installing mosquito nets in your home has a cost. In fact, in addition to that of the object that could rise based on its characteristics, we should also pay for the assembly. For a professional and lasting result, it is always advisable to rely on experts in the sector. However, in an emergency we can make one, do it yourself.

We will need:

  • a net preferably in fiberglass or nylon;
  • adhesive velcro;
  • one meter;
  • hot glue;
  • scissors.

Let’s take the measurements of the balcony or window frame where we would like to insert our mosquito net. After that we proceed to cut a part of the net respecting those same measures. We clean the frame properly, depriving it of dust and various dirt collected. We glue along the edges of the frame some velcro strips, those of the lower part. We will then attach the upper adhesive velcro strips along the sides of the cut out net. We will only have to match the velcro strips and we will finally have a window frame covered with a mosquito net. Thanks to the velcro we can open and close the mosquito net whenever we want.

After seeing the first project, let’s move on to the second. Like the first, we will need the fiberglass mesh, scissors, hot glue and measuring tape. In addition we will need:

  • pvc gaskets;
  • plastic corner pipes;
  • magnetic tape or self-adhesive strip.

We take the measurements of the frame and cut 4 strips of gaskets to the size of the 4 sides. We will join them as if to create a frame thanks to the plastic corners. At this point we will cover the frame with the net gluing it inside. We will complete by applying the magnetic strip on the seals of the mosquito net and on the inside of the frame. All that remains is to make the two magnetic strips adhere and we will have mounted our comfortable, effective and easily removable mosquito net.
