The Lancia Rally 037 is a sports car built from 1982 to 1983, at the Lancia plant in Borgo San Paolo in Turin to participate in the World Rally Championship. The Lancia 037 was born from a collaboration between Pininfarina, Dallara and Abarth in the early 1980s. The road version of the Lancia 037 arrived at the Turin Auto Show in 1982, produced in 200 units. It was not particularly successful, which he did not even seek, given that only 200 specimens of the model were needed for homologation in group B. Therefore, it was created only in order to obtain Group B approval.

Eng. Sergio Limone was the person in charge of the SE037 project and it was Cesare Fiorio, the Fiat sporting director, who announced in 1981 the birth of a new model for the rally due to the changes in the regulations. The project resumed the evolution of the Fiat 030 built by Abarth in 1974 and reached the 59th Turin Motor Show in 1982. The 037 had the difficult task of replacing the glorious Fiat 131 Abarth Rally which had collected numerous successes.

And the 037 has many successes: double in Montecarlo, double in the Acropolis, and monopolized podium in Sanremo. In 1986 – the last year in which the 037 takes part in the races, the second place in Portugal is remembered. Among the other non-world championship successes obtained by the Lancia 037 we should mention the three consecutive European titles won between 1983 and 1985. The turning point for the Lancia 037 took place in 1983, when the Turin sports car won the Constructors’ World Championship, with two points of advantage. on the Audi which already took advantage of the advantageous four-wheel drive.

The engine of the Lancia 037 is a 2.0 four-cylinder, which derives from that of the Fiat 131 Abarth. The racing version, on the other hand, delivers 260 hp, a value that rises to 275/280 until 1983.
