According to rumors, Basim Ibn Ishaq will be the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a new chapter that has been officially announced by Ubisoft: that’s who he is.
Basim Ibn Ishaq. Unless surprises, he will be the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the new chapter of the series that will be presented during the Ubisoft Forward on 10 September 2022. An interesting character, but far from new: in fact he appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, in the chapter mobile free-to-play Rebellion and in a series of books and comics.
Make yourself comfortable, then, because now we will tell you everything we know about this enigmatic killer. Be careful though: what follows will reveal some important details of the history of Valhalla and of the other works in which he is the protagonist.
The early years
He who smiles. This could be the etymology of the name of Basim, son of the architect responsible for the construction of the Great Mosque of Samarra. Born under the Abbasid caliphate during the ninth century, Basim grew up in Baghdad due to his father’s exile: here he frequented the library known as the house of wisdom and already at a young age entered the Occult, where he trained to become Master Assassin.
In the same years, however, he began to become obsessed with Æsir who used Yggdrasil. A behavior that made him unstable with his allies, but that had an explanation: Basim is in fact the reincarnation of an Isu, Lokiwho millennia earlier had used the power of this wondrous tool to allow his conscience to survive the so-called Great Catastrophe.
Once he becomes aware of his true nature, Basim recovers memories of the Norse god. He discovers that Loki’s beloved, Aletheia, has her conscience trapped in the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus. Her children, on the other hand, had been trapped by Odin. He sets off in search of his family and a way to take revenge on Odin himself, who had survived the catastrophe just like Loki.
The meeting with Eivor

As an Occult, he mainly dealt with missions in foreign nations, before becoming the head of the brotherhood in Constantinople. During this tenure he met an occult named Hythamwho later became his apprentice, and faced various declinations of the Order of the Ancients.
In 870 he made the acquaintance of the Viking Sigurd Styrbjornsson, reincarnation of the Isu Tyr, and decided to accompany him to Norway to follow in the footsteps of the Order of the Ancients in the region and in the meantime look for a way to pursue Loki’s aims. This way he ends up meeting Eivorthe reincarnation of Odin, to whom he gives a Hidden Blade.

In Ravensthorpe, England, Basim and Hytham set up a headquarters for the Occult and begin collaborating with Sigurd and Eivor. Hytham helps Eivor in the hunt for the Ancients, while Basim travels with Sigurd in search of the Saga Stone essential to access the Yggdrasil and awaken the true nature of his previous incarnation.
In 877, Eivor and Sigurd reach a fjord in the north of Hordafylke. Here they find the ancient Isu ruins which contain theYggdrasil, the Animus-like supercomputer that had allowed Odin, Loki, and other Isu to have their consciousness survive the extinction of the Isu. Exposed to the device, Basim is consumed by the memories of the Aesir and attacks his old companions; however, he comes out of the fight defeated and is trapped in a dimension called the Gray.

He remains there for about 20 centuries, until he is able to contact the Assassin Layla Hassan and lead it to Yggdrasil. She gained her trust in her, she tricks her into getting rid of her and then uses the power of Hermes’ staff to regenerate her body and reunite with Aletheia.
He then also meets Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings and requests a meeting with the head of the fraternity William Miles. While waiting for the return of the two killers and their mentor, he finally enters the Animus, looking for a way to free his children by exploring Eivor’s memories.
Basim in Mirage

Little is known about Basim prior to his move to Constantinople and his complete transformation into Loki. For this reason, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is likely to tell us the story of him as a young man Occult of Baghdadthus also giving a justification for the absence of some of the divine abilities obtained by the assassins in the last episodes of the series.
The rumors that the story set between 860 and 870 in the Iraqi capital are therefore credible, a city large enough to be divided into several areas to be accessed as you advance in the countryside.

The absence of several RPG elements like the multiple choice dialogues, the possibility to select the gender of the protagonist and to level up are also part of the simplification due to the incomplete connection between Basim and the conscience of the Aesir he hosts, Loki. No problem instead would arouse the presence of the Eye of the Eagle, given that numerous descendants of the Isu manage to use this power even though they have no direct connections with these ancestral creatures. In the same way, the presence of dream sequences is credible, useful to tell the way in which Loki manifested himself, gradually taking possession of the body of our character.
As for the history of the presentinstead, it is possible that it starts from where we left it in Valhalla: it could therefore culminate in the encounter between Loki-Basim and William Miles, with twists that are difficult to predict today.
