Is excessive smartphone use during pregnancy a bad habit? Do women with big bellies need to pay more attention? Generating radio waves, phones are objects that are always best to keep away. For example, if you spend a lot of time on the phone and receive a lot of calls, it is always recommended to put the speakerphone on. In this way, you protect yourself from the waves and overheating of the device.
The waves emitted by the mobile phone could hurt your hearing and could also lead to various problems, some even serious. But pregnant women do they have to pay even more attention than others? Electromagnetic waves, are they bad for your baby bump?
It should be clarified that there are no significant studies in this regard, so there is no certainty if the waves emitted by the phones affect pregnancy. We don’t even know if these can interfere with the development of the fetus in the womb. The WHO just recently tried to review all the data that has been collected to date. Some proved inconclusive, others more reliable.
However, a certain answer is not yet known, and we can only rely on the opinions of various doctors. What is certain is that, on a daily basis, all of us are bombarded by electromagnetic waves coming from various electronic devices. There are two electromagnetic waves, those non-ionizing and those ionizing. The difference is enormous, because the ionizers are capable of stripping the electrons of the atoms from the body.
The non-ionizing ones, on the other hand, do not have the energy necessary to tear them. When ionizing waves hit the cell, they modify the DNA, and increase the risk of various problems. The magnetic waves emitted by electronic devices, including mobile phones, they are not ionizing.
At the moment, doctors are calm about using the smartphone even during pregnancy and in close contact with the belly. In recent years, scientifically incorrect journalistic articles have been reported, which have alarmed a large part of the population.

For example, in 2017, the news was spread that the use of the mobile phone, during the months of pregnancy, especially in the first weeks, would give risks of abortion. A news later turned out to be false. For this reason, the WHO occasionally watches over these news and requests revisions, in order to provide verified and concrete information. For now, therefore, there is no evidence which would testify to interference of electromagnetic waves on the development of the unborn child. And they wouldn’t interfere with mom’s health either.
