It is a very special Ferrari California the one offered for sale by the Boutsen Classic auction house. The car, characterized by a silver livery and black interior, has a truly unique feature: it belonged to Michael Schumacher, who used it for some years as a private car. Equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V8 and 460 horsepower, this California it was in fact made in 2009 for the 7-time World Champion, who kept it until 2012. Today it is possible to win this unique Ferrari, for a starting price that has not been disclosed.

Schumacher’s California up for auction

Launched in 2008 to expand the Prancing Horse range downwards, the Ferrari California is one coupé-cabriolet with 2 +2 seats and folding metal roof. An unprecedented solution for the Maranello company, which with this model had also introduced another important innovation, namely the double clutch gearbox with 7 ratios. Under the front hood, an engine closely related to that of the “sister” F430, an 8-cylinder 4.3 capable of unleashing 460 horsepower and guaranteeing the performance of a true sports car: from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds and reach 310 km / h. Finally, the name was a tribute to the legendary Ferrari 250 GT California of the 1950s.

Michael Schumacher also participated in the development of the Ferrari California in the 2000sfree from the commitments of the track after his first retirement at the end of the 2006 season. A silver gray example of the Prancing Horse coupé-convertible was then delivered to the German Champion, who he used it as a private car for a few years. Years later, the car, customized with some elements that refer to Schumacher, was put up for auction.

Seemingly indistinguishable from other California models, the 7-time world champion’s car is Nürburgring silver color and recognizable by the double stripe in Cerro Gray which starts from the front bonnet and continues up to the rear, as well as for the stitching on the headrest with the “MS” logo. The car, identified by chassis number 168913, is in very good condition and is currently in Switzerland. Delivered to Schumacher in 2009, it was used by the German Champion until 2012, then passed into the hands of a new owner, and has now covered just over 15,000 km. The price for this collector’s car? Unknown: the auction house has decided to keep the deal confidential.

Ferrari and more: the F1 Champion collection

This California is not that one of the many high performance cars owned by Michael Schumacher. There were many supercars (and not only) that populated the garage of the Kerpen Champion: among these stands out one Bugatti EB110bought by Michael in 1994, and of course many Ferraris. From EnzoV12 developed in honor of the Drake, to the FXX, track prototype of which Schumy owned a black example. Among the cars owned by the German driver there are also more versatile models, such as one Mercedes C63 AMG station wagonand even an old Fiat 500. Most of these cars have been auctioned today and have already changed owners.
