Indoor masks extended: this is where the obligation remains and for when
Written by aquitodovale

From tomorrow, Thursday 16 June, the obligation to wear masks indoors should lapse. But is it really so? In fact, after six weeks of descent, epidemiological curves start to rise again in Italy. This week, Covid-19 cases are nearly 30,000 more than seven days ago. Deaths also rise by 73. This is what emerges from the bulletin of the Ministry of Health for the week 6-12 June 2022. Not only that. In yesterday’s bulletin, Tuesday 14 June, the positivity rate jumped to 17.2%. The new Omicron 5 sub-variant is much more contagious than the previous ones, causing the rise of cases. Sub-variant that is spreading in our country.

In the meantime, the road map of easing is proceeding. Today 15 June, the vaccination obligation for over 50s, school workers and law enforcement agencies expires. Stop also to masks indoors, but there is still discussion about a possible extension of the obligation on means of transport and in the places most at risk. The Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa he confirmed: The hypothesis of an extension makes its way. Today the Council of Ministers for the approval of the decree with all new rules. Let’s go into detail.

Indoor masks extended, here’s where and until when

From tomorrow, Thursday 16 June, farewell to the obligation to wear a mask in cinemas, theaters and indoor sporting events. Possible extension of the obligation instead for transport, hospitals and RSA until September. This was announced by the Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa.

With today – explained Costa in an interview with Tg1 – Certainly the obligation to wear masks in indoor places will lapse, and an important signal was also to allow our children to take both the middle and high school exams without a mask. The reflection that remains open is that of maintaining the obligation still until September as regards the means of transport. This is the hypothesis, then obviously the final choice will be made today in the Council of Ministers“.

And he adds: “There is no doubt that we are facing another step that brings us to normality. On the other hand, the government has always adopted the criterion of gradualness“.

It’s not all. As reported by Ansa, in a draft of the transport decree (still subject to verification), the use of masks would be extended until 30 September on all means of transport local and long-distance (bus, metro, trains, airplanes, ships, NCC, etc.).

The provision, which is still under discussion, would include theobligation to wear masks even in health facilities but not in schools during the first and second cycle exams.

Eighth and high school exams without masks

After days of back and forth, the decision would come: masks for eighth grade and high school exams will only be recommended. A rule will therefore be proposed in the Council of Ministers, which will be followed by an explanatory circular to schools. This is what emerged from the meeting between the Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi and the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza.

Meanwhile, in Italy the virus continues to circulate. In yesterday’s bulletin, the new positives recorded in the 24 hours were 39,474 out of 228,559 swabs, for one positivity rate of 17.2%. The victims are 73 (the previous day there were 41).
