To celebrate 25 years of the Mercedes A-Class, a real best seller of the “little one” from Stuttgart, a special version arrives: the Night Edition. An important content upgrade that makes the A-Class even sportier and more exclusive, with a customer advantage of 8% over the price of the car. With the Night Edition, the last special version before the facelift that will arrive at the end of the year, a whole series of equipment among the most sought after by customers will become part of the equipment, with a double advantage that can be enjoyed both in the purchase phase and in the evaluation of used vehicles, where the Night Edition loses nothing on the value of the equipment, as they are listed within a specific version. We tried the A-Class 180d Premium, a real workhorse for those who love diesel and travel many kilometers. Under the hood there is now no longer the 1.5 turbodiesel derived from Renault but the 1950cc Mercedes engine (OM654, already known in the 190 and 150 hp variant) which has been reduced to 116hp (85kW) with 280 Nm against 260 Nm of the old motorization. With the combination of the 8-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission (in the previous version it was 7-speed) consumption was truly surprising.
During our test, carried out mainly on extra-urban roads and on the motorway, the car consumed 4.4 liters per 100 km: translated means over 22 km traveled with 1 liter of diesel. Even though the engine was de-powered to 116 horsepower, it proved to be brilliant and satisfying for any driving style. There are 4 driving modes that can be set with Dynamic Select: Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual.
The road behavior of the A-Class has nothing to envy compared to the older sisters of the Stuttgart house: excellent road holding with precise, quick and light steering. Four adults travel comfortably and those sitting in the rear seat have two air vents and two USB type C sockets. The trunk capacity (370 liters) is also good, which can reach 1210 liters by folding down the rear seat backrests.
The Night Edition is available for the Sport and Premium versions, on all engines except the 250 and EQ Power. Among the features of this new special series are the 18 “alloy wheels, the 10.25” enlarged central double screen, the MBUX infotainment system, ambient lights, smartphone integration and specific equipment for comfort such as the Mirror Pack. , parking package and lumbar support. Other distinguishing features of the Night Edition are the Matrix radiator grille with black pins and high-gloss black louvre and chrome insert, the door sill in body color with decorative trim in high-gloss black, the tailpipes in high-gloss black, the stitching in light gray contrast throughout the interior, black floor mats with piping and “Edition” lettering in light gray and light aluminum inserts with printed finish.
An important standard equipment for a customer advantage equal to 8% on the price of the car, in absolute terms for an A 180 d Automatic Sport version it is over 2,600 euros, while for an A 180 d Automatic Premium the advantage is close to 3,000 EUR.
Among the equipment in the tested car, we also had adaptive high beams that turn on automatically only if the car does not detect vehicles in front and vehicles in the opposite direction and the Urban Guard car protection package.
The latter, in particular, is the exclusive anti-theft system that communicates in real time with the Mercedes Me application. In this way the car owner is updated in real time on the movements of the car with the system that sends the information tracking of the vehicle to the police in case of theft. The Night Edition trim is also offered on the Mercedes CLA and CLA Shooting Brake and is available exclusively on the Premium version. It offers the same equipment available on the A-Class Premium Night Edition plus the panorama roof, wireless charging for smartphones and the illuminated logo. The customer benefit is over € 3,700 compared to the price of a CLA Coupé 200 d Automatic Premium. (HANDLE).
