How do you make a large and opulent sedan like the Mercedes S-Class? The answer is simple: just put it in the hands of AMG. From the house in Affalterbach comes the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performanceequipped with a hybrid version with a rechargeable battery based on the 4 liter V8 biturbo. This makes it possible to obtain an overall power of ben 802 hp for the latest addition to the German company, which promises to perfectly combine performance with comfort.
Externally, the sheet metal of the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance remains the same as the S-Class, a 533 cm long sedan, but there is no shortage of innovations such as the grille, specific to this AMG version with its vertical slats, the 21 ” with 255/45 and 285/40 tires and four trapezoidal rear exhausts (two on each side). Clearly a specific bodykit cannot be missing which includes aerodynamic appendages and a new diffuser.
The “cure” of Affalterbach also affects the passenger compartment of the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance, which, however, does not lose its natural luxurious character. AMG limited itself to customizing the leather seats with dedicated stitching and logos, introducing a sporty “cut” steering wheel with integrated multifunction display. The Mbux multimedia system features specific graphics with functions dedicated to managing the hybrid powertrain, as well as AMG Track Pace telemetry, which allows you to keep an eye on your progress on the track. Finally, the information shown in the head-up display changes according to the driving style.
There Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance combines the AMG 4-litre biturbo V8 engine with the AMG hybrid powertrain powered by a new performance battery called HPB 150 with technology borrowed from Formula 1. total power is 802 hp and torque of 1430 Nm, with the performance of a thoroughbred supercar: 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (the limiter can be eliminated on request, obtaining a peak speed of 290 km/h). Seven driving modes, which can be selected according to the driver’s needs: Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual.
The accumulator, positioned under the luggage compartment, has a capacity of 13.1 kWh, and is able to guaranteerange of 33km. In this case the battery is not only used to proceed with “zero emissions”, but guarantees a continuous power of 70 kW (95 HP), which reaches a peak of 140 kW (190 HP) for ten seconds. To guarantee these power peaks without compromising safety, the technicians of the German company have adopted a sophisticated cell cooling systemwhich takes place through 14 liters of dielectric liquid which passes through a water/oil exchanger (it keeps the temperature on an average value of 45°C).
To obtain dynamic qualities up to par, the engineers have equipped the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance of systems such as the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, roll stabilization (AMG Active Ride Control) and four-wheel steering (the rear wheels rotate up to 2.5 degrees). These systems are part of the standard equipment. The exuberance of the 802 HP is curbed by a braking system consisting of 400 mm front steel discs with six-piston calipers and 380 mm rear single-piston calipers. On the other hand, carbon ceramics are available on request.
