Subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium will be able to play Stray since launch, because the game will be included in their subscription immediately. So from 19 July 2022 all subscribers will be able to play the role of the cat protagonist of the game.
This is an interesting novelty, considering that Stray will be one of the first games launched directly in the renewed version of the subscription.
We read others development detailstold by the development team itself:
The vision behind the game, initially called “HK Project”, began to come to life seven years ago in the minds of Koola and Viv, the co-founders of BlueTwelve Studio. It is nothing short of amazing to see that today that vision has taken shape becoming a real video game, now ready to be experienced and appreciated, or so we hope, by many people around the world. We have learned a lot on this journey. Of all the unexpected discoveries and challenges we faced, creating an interactive cat was certainly the most complex!
Trying to control a cat, both in real life and in video games, is certainly not a walk in the park! From the start, we knew our superstar’s controls and animations had to be close to perfection to convincingly communicate that exhilarating feeling of agility and movement. That’s why Miko, our specialized animator, really took this challenge to heart by spending a lot of time browsing reference images and videos. The positive and also rather surprising thing we discovered is this: it seems that the entire internet was created with the sole purpose of hosting tons of pictures and movies of cute and adorable felines! So we ended up with a lot of reference material to work with.
Also, about 80% of the development team owns a cat (or cats own them, depending on your point of view) and we also have two cats in the office who “collaborate” with us on a daily basis! Their names are Oscar and Jun and, even if they aren’t exactly the most productive members of the studio, they certainly contribute to making it a more cheerful and lively environment.
Seeing them interact with the objects scattered around the office (sometimes they even manage to turn off our PCs at inopportune moments!) Has given us numerous ideas for the various feline interactions that can be performed during the game. Obviously these interactions have been subjected to the scrutiny and approval of Jun and Oscar themselves!
We have worked hard to make our feline as alive and realistic as possible, in order to guarantee players a deep and immersive exploration experience. We are really excited to finally be able to show you, in our trailer, some glimpses of some new locations such as “Antvillage”, a settlement built around a huge tank. It is an excellent example of how the exceptional skills of the cat have allowed greater freedom in level design, especially with regard to verticality, making it possible to explore the world on multiple levels.
When we decided to add the backpack and B-12, the small drone that follows the cat everywhere, a new range of options opened up for us to interact and discover the game environment. In particular, the ability to speak with the characters of the world proved to be fundamental to provide important details about the setting or to discover the history of its inhabitants.
This incredible adventure, or the development of our first video game, is now coming to an end, and we can’t wait for July 19 to find out how players will react to the exploration of this peculiar world and how they will approach its colorful inhabitants. So, on the part of the entire team, Jun and Oscar included: have fun!
