Hydration is a fundamental aspect to keep our body healthy and in summer it is even more so. With high temperatures we eliminate a significant amount of sweat and lose many nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, which must be replenished.
The daily water requirement, at these times of the year, therefore, could be higher than normal, even if we are not thirsty we should hydrate. This does not mean preparing infinite quantities of fizzy and sugary drinks, which would not be indicated among other things in case of scorching heat.
Fruits and vegetables come directly from Nature to help, genuine ingredients that could help us feel less hot and keep the body hydrated. They are remarkably rich in minerals and nutrients useful for staying in shape and having the right energy charge.
This sweet low-calorie drink is rich in vitamin C and potassium, refreshing and thirst-quenching and to drink on hot days
Sometimes drinking just water can be a little tiring and, at certain times of the day, it might be nice to taste a different taste. There are, for example, many flavored waters that would be an excellent alternative to plain water. Instead, let’s avoid excessive use of industrial fruit juices, which have a rather high sugar level.
To supplement the minerals, without drinking caloric drinks, we could instead make a healthy and easy-to-prepare drink, suitable even for the little ones. The main ingredient is pineapple, a typically tropical fruit, with a sugary flavor, with some more acidulous and very juicy notes. 100 grams of fruit contain about 40 calories, 250 grams of potassium, vitamin A, B6, C, folate, bromelain, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, manganese, iron.
Thanks to these nutrients, pineapple could improve digestion and have an antioxidant action. In addition, its particular taste makes it an ideal food to refresh not only the palate, but the rest of the body, on days of asphyxiating heat.
It is very easy to prepare, rich in vitamin C and potassium, this sweet drink ready in a few minutes to be offered to the whole family. To fill a 500ml bottle you will need the following ingredients:
- 200 gr of pineapple pulp;
- 350 ml of cold water;
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice;
- a teaspoon of honey;
- mint leaves.
Blend the pulp together with the lemon juice and honey, adding a little cold water to the thicket. We can then filter the mix or leave it thicker, fill the bottle and then serve in the glass with a little ice and fresh mint leaves.
Alternatively, we can simply leave the ingredients, infused in water, in the refrigerator for about 3 hours, in this way we will obtain flavored water.
