After two difficult years, the kermesse of the Concorso d’eleganza Villa d’Este is back. Over fifty cars of a very high level have been registered. The organization, curated together with Bmw Classic Group, was up to the difficult challenge, starting with the “Prelude” tour, which took place on Thursday 19th in the center of Milan, a first for the competition, thus approaching the great public (and in the streets open to normal traffic) the beauty and exclusivity of cars worth millions of dollars. The most prestigious award, the Best of Show, was awarded to a splendid 1937 Bugatti 57 S.

Every year the competition “changes”, ie they are decided by the organization of the categories so that the cars entered are always different and exciting. This year there were seven, all very interesting; in particular the one dedicated to Ferrari, for the 75th anniversary of the Cavallino. Among these, in evidence a 400 Superamerica Aerodinamica and a 250 GT Zagato from 1956, and those of the “racing cars” Win on Sunday, sell on Monday (win on Sunday, sell on Monday, to emphasize the versatility of racing cars that could also be used on a daily basis), with racing supercars from 1954, such as the Maserati A6 GCS, to the 1998 1000hp Nissan R390 GT1.

Saturday: The public’s Gold Cup

Saturday is the day of passion and of the “Vip” public and collectors, who participate in the first parade and vote. The Gold Cup is then awarded, voted by the public, as early as 1929. As the famous and super-competent Simon Kidston, speaker and selector of the event explains, it is the award that expresses passion, aesthetics and the mood of the competition, a very true and spontaneous vote, which can indicate the next trends also in the market of the coveted (and very expensive) vintage cars. After the parade, the coveted and much felt Villa d’Este Gold Cup was assigned to a very particular and almost unique “modernist” car, namely the Aston Martin “Bulldog”, a sort of English Countach, with a V8 engine. from 5,300 cc, which participated in the “300 per hour racing cars” category, cars with an incredibly modern line and cutting-edge solutions for 1979; Los Angeles-based owner Phillip Sarofim is delighted.

Sunday, Best of show: bugatti wins the coveted award

The main parade on Sunday is always in the gardens of Villa d’Este, and on this day the coveted “Best of show” trophy BMW Group trophy is awarded by an international jury of experts. In fact, it is the prize that is worth a lot, for the participants, as it certifies the perfection of the car (restoration or conservation) and therefore increases its value on the market. So the owners are also very interested in the jury prizes reserved for the individual categories, precisely because the value and competence of how these splendid cars are kept are certified. This year the expert jury chose the 1937 Bugatti 57 S as the overall winner of the Best of Show award. The car competed in the category The Golden Age of Elegance, where all the participants were almost works of art. The Bugatti, a very elegant convertible, has an 8-cylinder in-line engine for a displacement of 3,257 cc, and the owner is from Monaco.
