Wash a very dirty Porsche GT3: see what happens (VIDEO)


Larry Kosilla of AMMONYC had fun this time making a magnificent Porsche GT3 992 shine. An extraordinary model, but very difficult to clean.

Throughout its history, Porsche has launched a style and made millions of fans dream. The high-performance GT3 line was launched in 1999 on 996 models. The reasons that pushed the Stuttgart technicians to squeeze every horsepower of the engine was linked to homologation for the FIA ​​GT3 Cup. In fact, throughout its history, the first GT3 marked an era in the national and regional Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge series, as well as in the international Porsche Supercup in support of the FIA ​​Formula 1 World Championship.

The first GT3 was born to race, essentially there were no “road” elements. It was a naked and raw sports car, with no components that could weigh it down. Via the rear seats, the soundproofing, the rear speakers, the sunroof and the air conditioning. What made the difference, of course, was also the standard flat-six engine with integrated dry sump. In Stuttgart they designed a specific naturally aspirated engine, based on the unit used on the Porsche 962 and 911 GT1. Racing cars were known in the paddock environment for the “Mezger”, the engine created by the designer Hans Mezger. The engine featured the original 911’s versatile air-cooled dry sump crankcase with an external oil reservoir.

The 996 GT3 produced 360 PS (265 kW) compared to the 300 PS (221 kW) of the standard 996. A significant difference that immediately attracted the interest of fans. The GT3 engine was similar to that of the 962, fully water-cooled, based on the same crankcase. The difference is that the GT3, like the air-cooled and water-cooled 959, used two cylinder heads, each of which covered a three-cylinder bank. Everything was designed for maximum performance. The GT3 was launched with a lowered and recalibrated suspension system, larger brakes, lighter wheels and a new front bumper with rear spoiler to increase downforce. The car was thus attached to the ground.

After 5 years, in 2004, Porsche used the restyling of the 996 to launch the new GT3. Engine power came to 381 hp (280 kW) and torque to 284 lb⋅ft (385 Nm), 80% of which was available from 2,000 rpm. The GT3 used the body of the Carrera 4, but with very different performances. From 0 to 100 km / h the car sprinted in 4.5 seconds, while the quarter mile took place in just 12 seconds. The exceptional driver and tester, Walter Röhrl, completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the new GT3 model in 7 minutes and 56 seconds, a heroic feat for the time that was used by the Stuttgart house to advertise the supercar.

The fame of the car grew more and more. Porsche rode the wave by also unveiling a version of the GT3, renamed RS, which was even more track-focused. RS stands for RennSport, literally “racing sport” in German. In 2006 Porsche presented the 997 GT3 with the new 3.6-liter flat-six engine with 415 hp (305 kW). The performance was terrific. The car took just 4.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h and the top speed was 311 km / h. Three years later the updated version arrived, with 20 more horsepower and sensational options such as dynamic engine mounts and a pneumatically lifted front axle to compensate for the reduced ground clearance.

The 991 GT3 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013. The eyes were immediately on more aggressive lines and the new 3.8-liter 6-cylinder direct injection (DFI) that produced 475 hp (349 kW) at 8,250 rpm. The Doppelkupplung dual-clutch transmission (PDK) added to the feature of the rear-wheel steering. The GT3 was capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds, while the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds at 203 km / h. In 2017 it was the turn of the updated version, 991.2 GT3, with stunning performance. For the first time, 500 HP was reached.

And so we come to the Porsche from Kosillia, the 992 GT3, released on the market in February 2021. The 992 GT3 is equipped with an updated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine to produce 510 hp (375 kW) at 8,400 rpm and 470 Nm ( 347 lb ⋅ft) of torque at 6,250 rpm. The 992 GT3 flies from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds. The rear wing features gooseneck trusses with more downforce than older GT3 models. It is the fastest ever produced, with a top speed of 320 km / h, seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox or a six-speed manual.

The car in the video, bright red, needed a good check up. The magnificent GT3 immediately required a shampoo and a thorough cleaning with a specific product from the workshop. Although it may seem like a simple job, every single action involves the use of high-profile equipment and a great deal of experience. The technician used the vacuum cleaner to remove the accumulated dirt. Note the difficulty in extracting the stuck leaves. The car was then raised and for true enthusiasts it is a great opportunity to take a closer look at the bottom and to all the aerodynamic appendages of the car. The perspective is very interesting, and Larry Kosilla showcased all the details of an extreme supercar.

The work is done in the smallest detail, to leave no stone unturned. The aim is to make the GT3 shine like never before. The car’s red paint has been accurately picked up to return the model to its former glory. Kosilla is a master. Also investigate the washing of this very old Mercedes. Another sensational case was that relating to the car wash of a legendary Lamborghini Countach, left to rot for 20 years in a garage. Notice how Kosilla uses the sander and then polishes the body. After the long treatment, we notice that the GT3, under the light, has changed from the opacity we had admired at the beginning. The Big Apple’s most famous technician was able to make the Porsche shine, as if it had just come out of the Stuttgart factory. The before and after is unmissable.
